Physical Therapy FAQ
Total Health Associates delivers effective physical therapy in our Waldwick offices. If you live in or near the Waldwick, NJ area and are searching for physical therapy services to help you recover from an accident, illness, or chronic condition, we invite you to our healing center. Our Waldwick physical therapy services partner with our chiropractic care, acupuncture and massage therapy to bring you a holistic healing approach. Our Total Health Associates staff understands that beginning any new healthcare program can be confusing, so we want to address your physical therapy questions.
What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy uses exercises to strengthen, stretch and move your body to eliminate pain and restore mobility. It also uses a combination of other techniques such as Kinesio taping, massage, and hot and cold therapies to reduce inflammation and help your body restore itself.
What happens at my first visit?
Our physical therapists evaluate your movements and record measurements such as how high you can raise your arm or how far you can bend your knee. After we examine your injuries, we develop a physical therapy plan that will incorporate at-home exercises so you begin to heal. Depending on your injury, we may start some treatments immediately to reduce inflammation and decrease your pain.
How long is each session?
Most physical therapy sessions last approximately one hour.
Who do I see?
You will spend your session with one of our physical therapy consultants, either Dr. Stephanie Sipala or Jennifer Collard.
Is physical therapy painful?
You may experience slight discomfort as we move your body into new positions, but you will not feel pain. Our physical therapy specialists watch your reactions and gauge your body's tension to determine the intensity of your sessions. You are in constant communication with us about what feels comfortable so we can adjust the session accordingly. Following physical therapy, your muscles may be tight and tired, which is the same feeling you have after a training workout at the gym.
What is required of me?
We ask that you arrive in comfortable clothing and with an open mind. Our goal is to help you recover from injuries, reduce your pain and restore your mobility. We put together your program, but ultimately, you do the work. We also expect you to perform your daily at-home exercises as these will speed your recovery time.
You may be seeking a physical therapist for help recovering from an injury or for dealing with a chronic condition such as fibromyalgia. We understand that accidents happen quickly so you want to receive treatment just as quickly to eliminate future painful concerns. The staff at Total Health Associates listens to your symptoms and determines whether chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage therapy or physical therapy are right for you. We may suggest a combination of all our services for a complete healing approach. To learn more about our services, please call us today at 201-447-5757.
